My Story: From Paying for Hosting to Building for Free
Not that long ago, I was doing what most people do when they want a website: paying for web hosting every month and wrestling with WordPress just to get something that looked halfway decent online.
It worked. But it wasn't fun. And every new site meant more monthly fees, more logins, more things to manage.
Then about 12 months ago, I stumbled across ChatGPT Codex.
I had no idea what I was doing. There were almost no tutorials, no guides, no one explaining how it worked in plain English. So I did what any curious person does: I just started experimenting. I watched whatever videos I could find. I tried things. I broke things. I tried again.
My first project was a fun little website called WhackyCalculators.com - a collection of quirky, creative calculators just for the joy of building something. It wasn't perfect, but it was mine, and I built it by simply talking to Codex about what I wanted.
That was the moment everything shifted.
I kept going. I spent hours - honestly, days - figuring out how to connect GitHub and Cloudflare together, how to push my code, how to get a site live without paying a single dollar for hosting. It wasn't always smooth. But I kept at it.
And then one day it just clicked.
Now building websites and apps doesn't feel painful anymore. It feels creative. I can take an idea from my head, describe it in plain English, and watch it come to life. No developer. No monthly hosting bill. No limitations.
I even went back and rebuilt WhackyCalculators.com from scratch using everything I'd learned, and the difference is night and day. Same idea, but now it looks amazing.
